Do I need to be in shape?
Brazilian jiu jitsu is a physically demanding sport. However, there are few people who are actually in shape when they hit the mats. Grappling is a physical activity unlike any other and requires time to learn and to get in shape. It will take several months before you feel comfortable on the ground and have the endurance to go for five rounds.
Don’t wait until you are “in shape” to start training. The best way to get in shape is to get onto the mats and start sweating. It will not be easy, but it will be greatly rewarding and you will get into the best shape of your life!
